Ray Kest Memorial Old Newsboys Goodfellow Association Scholarship

Need is a primary factor in the selection process. Attention is paid to cumulative GPA, ACT/SAT scores, leadership skills, extra-curricular activities, community service and the availability of other financial resources. Applications are available in guidance. Deadline is October 21st, 2011.

The Gates Millennium Scholars Program

A renewable, need-based scholarship who will choose to study computer science, education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health or science as a major/career. Student must also meet the following criteria:
  • African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American.
  • A citizen of the United States
  • Have a GPA of at least 3.3 on the 4.0 scale
  • Will enroll in an accredited college or university
  • Meet Pell Grant eligibility
  • Have demonstrated leadership abilities in community service, extracurricular or other activities.
Go to www.gmsp.org for an application. Deadline is January 11, 2012.

Wendy's High School Heisman

Students will be selected and recognized based on their academic achievements, athletic accomplishments, community-leadership, and involvement in various extracurricular activities. First 30,000 applicants will receive a $10 Wendy's Gift Card!

Elks National Foundation: "2012 Most Valuable Student Scholarship"

Any student may apply for this high dollar, very intensive scholarship. An electronic version of the application is available for download at http://www.elks.org/ENF/scholars/mvs.cfm.
Deadline is December 2, 2011 by 4:00 p.m.

Promedica Healthcare Fields of Green Scholarship

Perrysburg students have consistently won or placed in this event. Here are the rules:
  • Teams of one or two high school students grades 11-12
  • Team must create a unique program for their community that will increase the awareness of hunger in our region

The University of Toledo Presidential Scholarship

  • Full tuition and general fee for four years
  • Room and board for four years
  • A one-time $3,000 stipend for a summer experience
Requirements:
  1. You need to have a minimum 3.8 GPA and 30 ACT/1340 SAT
  2. Submit a completed UT application for admissions (visit utoledo.edu/admission/apply)
  3. Visit utoledo.edu/admission/presidential to complete the scholarship application.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure Scholarship

Aids college students facing significant financial burdens due to the loss of a parent to breast cancer or their own breast cancer diagnosis. The scholarship awards $10,000 per year to a student to attend a state university in pursuit of a bachelor's degree. For more information visit www.komen.org/scholarship.

"Freedom in Academia" Student Essay Contest

High School seniors are invited to write an in-depth essay explaining why free speech and First Amendment rights are crucial to higher education and how abuses of these rights harm the college experience. 2012 John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest

Write an original and creative essay that demonstrates an understanding of political courage as described by John F. Kennedy in Profiles in Courage.

  • Describe and analyze an act of political courage by a U.S. elected official who served during or after 1956.
  • Use at least five varied sources
  • Open to all U.S. high school students grades nine through twelve.
First-place winner receives a $5,000 cash award and $5,000 in College Savings Plan. Deadline January 7,2012.

Northwest Chapter of Credit Unions 2012 Scholarship Awards
