A message from Mr. Matt Feasel, Treasurer:
As Public Records Officer for the district, it is my responsibility to see that the district achieves the highest degree of integrity when it comes to public records. There are very few items, when it comes to "public" school districts that are not classified as public records. Historically, we have all grown accustomed to material items being considered as that "public record" that we must maintain. We have grown beyond that today and the electronic era is here. That means much of what we do on our computers is also public record. Email are no exception when they pertain to our business of educating and performing services related to educating the children of the Perrysburg School District.
In protecting our staff, students and members of our community and in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code, the district has implemented an archiving service for our FirstClass email system. You may have already noticed this in email that you have recently sent or received. The "history" of each message will be so noted with an "Archived" notation indicating that email has been backed-up on the main server for record retention. No one but our technology staff will have access to this system. This is being done only to remain in compliance with the public records statute of the Ohio Revised Code. This retention should not be interpreted as a way to retrieve messages that you inadvertantly deleted. This system will not be utilized in that fashion and you should not contact our technology staff and ask them to do that.
It is important to note that alternative email accounts (gmail, hotmail, yahoo, buckeye-express, etc,) that still exist out there, bypass this process and are not permitted to be used during the work day or at any other time to discuss school related items or issues.
Again, we do this only as protection to our staff, students and the Perrysburg community. We continue to reach for the highest degree of professionalism that is expected of us. As always, if you should have any questions or need any additional information, please feel free to contact my office or Brent Shafer, Technology Coordinator.
